Saturday: Isolated storms and rain showersWith the approaching low pressure from the west and an upper-level shortwave moving through Maine on Saturday, there's just enough instability to create some isolated storms and rain showers. End-of-the-day rainfall totals are shown above, and it's quite a shift from yesterday's outlook. The concentration is heavily focused on northern Maine, and totals decrease by 0.1 inches or more. The GIF above runs from 7 AM Saturday to 1 AM Sunday. Lack of moisture and energy in the atmosphere helps keep these storms weaker and produce less rainfall. The bigger swaths of green reflectivity through southern Maine is most likely convection, not rainfall, that this short-range model has produced due to its high resolution. The pockets of yellow and red reflectivity is where the most precipitation will fall and where the storms are likely to pass through on Saturday. Weekend temperature outlookThe GIF above runs from 7 AM Saturday to 7 PM Sunday. Saturday and Sunday will be very similar temperature-wise, with high temperatures statewide ranging from low to mid 70s, with exception to Down East and parts of Mid Coast, which may see high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. Dew points will range from 59 to 62 both days. Mostly cloudy to overcast skies is also expected for the weekend. Drought condition informationAs of Thursday, June 25th, many areas of Maine have been placed under moderate drought conditions. There's been a stretch of dry weather recently, and long-range models continue with this pattern. That being said, it's time to take some precautions when under these conditions, such as conserving groundwater, practicing fire prevention (such as watching open flames), and staying in the loop from local officials regarding the severity of the drought conditions in your area.
