Before I get into the forecast, I announced on Facebook Saturday that I am doing some revamping of the website. Some pages have been consolidated into the WEATHER WALL, which is now a 24-hour outlook of what to expect from NOAA NWS feeds covering statewide. I've updated my bio, set up a separate page for the media citations of myself and my work, and touched up the marine page a bit. I will continue to tweak things as I go along with what is available to me. Coding isn't my strong point, but I am learning as I go along, just like forecasting. Most of this is mobile phone friendly, some of it isn't. This site is best read off PC or tablet. A quiet start to the weekAfter a bitter cold start to the day, the pattern begins to change. A strong area of high pressure to the south slides to the east into the Atlantic as a weak wave passes through the region. This sets up a southwest flow which will bring temperatures up, add clouds to the sky in the process, and bring mountain snow showers heading into the overnight. Expect another breezy day with the wave kicking the speeds up a bit. Monday 7 PM (00z) to Tuesday 1 PM (18z) - The ski hills could pick up a couple inches of charity flakes during the overnight hours and into Tuesday morning, Roads may be a bit slick for the morning commute over the higher elevations as well. Snow showers taper off heading into the afternoon as a weak back door cold front slides to the south. Slick spots for southern areas Wednesday morningWednesday 1 AM (06z) to 1 PM (18z) - The timing of the arrival of the snow isn't great as it appears likely to impact the morning commute for the heavily populated areas of the south. Snow will be light and fluffy, where it gets compacted will be very greasy. Temperatures are expected to be in the teens / low 20s to start off before rising to around freezing for York County by early afternoon. I mentioned in Sunday's update that I had concerns with the deep cold over the north and how that may impact snow totals. Guidance ideas caught up to my thinking and adjusted themselves overnight. They could adjust again, as the position and timing of the high racing to southeast from Canada will be critical to the outcome. The trend for now is less in the way of accumulation. I will update on this Tuesday morning. Thoughts on the next one Thursday into FridayWednesday 10 PM (03z Thursday) to Friday 10 PM (03z Saturday) - Model ideas are still scattered on this, but the general idea is for snow of the north with a mix of rain and junk possible for the rest of the region. Given the fact this is shaping up to be a weak inside runner, cold air damming may throw a wrench into this with freezing rain potential for interior. While the general idea on wind direction is out of the southwest, this is does not appear to be that much of a breezy affair, which adds to my speculation that this could be junkier. Updates on this will come as the week unfolds. Storm potential a week outSeeing how guidance tends to shift the long term ideas more to the west as the forecast window closes in, that raises concern with me that this may turn into something. It's on the radar screen for now, and we'll see if there is something to come out of it.
